Bucky is actually pretty famous for saying "there's no such thing as wizards" but he does believe in magic. He's seen both Dr. Strange and Wanda Maximoff perform it (though he didn't know Wanda's was magic at the time) and he's pretty aware of the fact that there's shit out there that he doesn't know about and is beyond his understanding.
He's...wary of that. He doesn't trust things that don't work in a way that he can analyze, take apart, and put back together and magic is one of those things. He's well read and canonically has read fantasy novels so he's familiar with how world-building could explain magic, he just doesn't want to apply it to his real life. He's far more comfortable with science and scientific explanations for phenomena, even if it borders into science fiction.
Fae magic is something he would be vaguely familiar with from reading legends in his own universe but it isn't something he's ever experienced first hand and he will definitely not trust it and be wary of it at first, especially considering one of the few things he does know is that faeries are out to trick you.
Bucky would genuinely like for HYDRA to not have happened to him and for he and Steve to have come home from the war much the same as they left for it. He knows this is a selfish dream because Steve belongs to the future and to a life that helps a hell of a lot more people than he helped during the war but Bucky doesn't care about that, especially if there's no repercussions from wishing for this. He misses his old life, misses when he could trust people and could have a good time without feeling guilty.
HYDRA changed Bucky's personality significantly and, even worse, Bucky is aware of that. He's aware that he could have come home and gotten married and had children if HYDRA had never "rescued" him from the train accident and he'd never become the Winter Soldier and there's a part of him that wants that more than anything. He knows he can't have it, given how that shaped and reformed him, but it's still something he desires nonetheless.
Given this gift without strings, however, Bucky would take it without hesitation. He wants his old life back even if it's something that is absolutely not feasible in the real world.
Without question, it would be Steve Rogers. Steve's choice to go back into the past and "leave" Bucky in the present affected his mental health greatly. While he supports his best friend's choice to seek happiness and to be with the woman he loves, he also feels as if a part of him has been ripped away because he's gone. All he has of his family, according to him, is Steve's shield. Bucky has a very difficult transition from life with Steve to life without him and it leaves him with a lot of self-doubt and loss of identity.
It's a selfish desire to want to choose Steve over the needs of all the people who need him in the present considering Bucky knows there are things he needs to do in the modern era - help Sam transition into Captain America, help protect people who need protecting, clear his own name and escape his past - but he'd rather just have Steve instead if there's no consequence to taking that action.
For Bucky, this would be choosing family over choosing duty, and given the free pass, he would choose family.
Loyalty, first and foremost. Bucky's most famous line is that he'll be with Steve until the end of the line (which turns out to be much more complicated than he'd intended that to be when he originally said it) but it's something he's stuck by even after being an assassin for HYDRA. He will do anything to support his friends, provided he believes their cause to be just, and he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty to do that.
His loyalty isn't only to Steve. He eventually extends that loyalty to Sam, too, and helps him transition into a different sort of Captain America than Steve had ever been. He is willing to go along with Sam even if he doesn't always get along with him because he values Sam's opinions and his goals and he's willing to do what it takes to achieve those goals.
Bucky isn't afraid to choose loyalty over the letter of the law. He has broken the law more than once to support Steve and Sam, up to and including staging a prison break, and he wouldn't hesitate to do it again. His loyalty means he wants to shelter his friends from negative consequences - be that information that would disillusion them from their causes, the risk of prison, or the guilt of having killed someone.

( It's been a few weeks since he'd met Daphne trying to clear debris from the big storm that basically wrecked all of September and there's another storm coming down but at least this time it's rain and not sticky lorasses or something even more unpleasant. It's not the best weather but he's still glad he managed to get the roof and sides back onto his house before it came up; being outside in this is not his idea of a good time.
That's why he's incredibly confused when there's a blurry figure outside in this weather. There's a crack of lightning and he can see a little more clearly - it's Daphne, soaked through her sky-blue dress and her hair plastered to her head. He throws his door open and motions her inside. He had rebuilt his house a little bigger than he'd found it but it's still small so they'll be close but at least she'll be dry. )
Why are you walking around in this? You could have called or something.
( It's not said with admonishment or anything like that. Daphne's a grown woman and perfectly entitled to walk around in the rain if she wants to but she looks smaller, somehow, with all her clothes dripping with water. She doesn't even have a hat. Damn. )

Bucky doesn't answer calls from people he doesn't know so when he gets one, he lets it ring, then he lets it ring again. No voicemail. Of course not. Still, he doesn't like to leave a thread hanging and his life is full of bullshit that tends to show up out of nowhere so it's better to know than not know.

Steve had called him "Bucky" but he has no attachment to the name. He's only been called soldat for years and years so having a name washes over him like water and doesn't leave anything permanent behind. He knows other people's names because it's important to do so - Steve, who claims that he knows him. Tony, who comes and does tests on his arm. Bruce, who makes him talk about his emotions. None of them have any impact other than Natasha, the one with the mark.
He doesn't remember her. He simply knows that the spider behind his ear matches the spider on her wrist. He knows that he shot her in their fight and he knows that he missed. He never misses. She was close enough for him to take a headshot or one in the chest but he chose her shoulder instead, non-fatal, and let her live. Injured, yes, but very much alive.
When he hears footsteps approaching the door he knows that it's her. They're light in such a way that it feels like she never wants to leave visible tracks, like she slips through doors and buildings and roles in a way that no one else can. She's the one he wants to talk to the most. The door is locked from the outside and while he thinks he could break out of this room, he doesn't. He behaves, for the most part, because he's been behaving the entire time he's been alive.
"I'm still in here," he says. He doesn't know if that's a comfort or not. He's sitting cross-legged on the floor instead of using the bed or the chair; neither of those things feel like his right now. "You can come in."

001 wakanda
There's peace in Wakanda. Bucky had spent a little while under the ice while Shuri figured out a way to work on his deprogramming and while it's been a painful process, it's a necessary one and he's glad for all her work on the tangled knot that's HYDRA and the mess inside his brain. It's all wired incorrectly, a bomb that never went off but still needs to be defused, and he's scared every time she goes in there that something will go wrong and he'll attack her; it hasn't happened yet.
When he isn't working with her or Ayo, he has a little hut to himself where there are goats and sometimes children come visit him to see the curious white man who has taken up on the fringes of Wakandan society. Steve has visited a few times but when they announce a visitor this time, it's apparently not Steve. They're still at the palace being received, though, so Bucky takes the time to tidy up where he's been staying as much as he can one-handed; he's neat by nature but he also isn't used to having company come by either.
Who could it be? Sam? Sharon? Bucky isn't sure who would come to visit him aside from those two and Steve. Tony Stark certainly wouldn't and he isn't sure the Wakandan government would even let him in. Would Wanda come to see him? He's not certain. He imagines she's in hiding the same as he is, trying to avoid the Sokovia Accords and their inevitable consequences on her. It seems she's suffering more from them than anyone else, even himself, so he doesn't think she'd risk coming to see him.
He catalogs the other people he knows and he comes up with Natasha. He's got a strange history with her. He's shot her twice while the Winter Soldier but curiously, both times, he'd shot her non-fatally. It's almost as if he'd known that she needed to live even if he didn't know her and that's not what the Winter Soldier does. He doesn't leave loose ends. He kills whoever is necessary, even an innocent bystander, and Natasha has been actively opposing him both times he's encountered her. Even when he'd been activated by Zemo he'd attacked her but didn't take her down. There's something in him that protects her and he wonders why that is and always has. He doesn't know why she'd visit him but he wouldn't turn it down, either, so when he hears someone at the door he calls for them to come inside.
"Come in, I'm not busy." He's just finishing up wiping down a counter in what counts for his kitchen and when he comes into view of the visitor, he sees that it is Natasha. Curious.
"Hi."

The words aren't gone so if anyone knows he's not just a blank slate waiting to be commanded, he'd be completely wiped and put on ice again, but if he's careful no one will notice. It's Loki, of all people, and from what he understands, Loki had just tried to take over the entire world and then gone in with HYDRA to see if he could still get control and cause mayhem that way. In spite of all that, Loki had chosen to bring him along when he left and Bucky still isn't really sure why. Loki hasn't made that explicitly clear. Bucky's not naïve enough to think a mischief god has done this out of the goodwill of his own heart but it's a better option than staying where he's used and abused so going with him is no question. Where they're going is a bigger problem. )
